What to expect on Doe Mountain.

Doe Mountain is unusual: the climb is a means, not the point. The first 0.2 mile of steep, uneven rock steps is the hardest part and it’s over in about ten minutes — after that the trail crests onto a flat, open plateau you’re free to explore. There are no signs, fences, or marked viewpoints on top, so note where you crested the rim, because the descent notch is easy to miss from above. Four rim viewpoints face Capitol Butte, Boynton Canyon, the Village of Oak Creek, and the Cockscomb. It’s fully exposed with no water, so go early.
